People with less status also change the behaviour of people with more status, too, but the dynamics are different. When those with less status are doing it, it involves an effort asymmetry as they have to work harder to overcome that status. cf, protests. Even in small informal groups, those with less status have to do more organizing and corralling to change prevailing ways of doing things. The High Cost of Being New/less status-y. On the other hand, this is a way for communities of belonging to protect themselves from random whims or corrosive efforts.
